Overview: Newly elected High Marshal Helbrecht declared the crusade to rid the Ghoul Stars system of the Xenos Cythor Fiends. Within eight years the Xenos population of the outlying systems had been exterminated and the Crusade pushed onwards to the aliens homeworld, but upon reaching the core systems, they were found to be eerily empty. No trace could be found of the aliens. Before an investigation could be undertaken the Helbrecht redirected his crusade to assist in the Third war of Armageddon.

Non-Canon Info
This would be where the author and authors could insert theories, ideas, and flesh out sparse information.

Notes: There are additional links to a post describing the Cythor Fiends themselves on various forums but I was unable to find any actual sources of this information:
Cythor Fiends were a race of extraordinarily evil aliens who lived in a desolate region in the north eastern corner of the Segmentum Obscurus known as the Ghoul Stars. The few surviving records of the crusade describe the Cythor Fiends as humanoid Bat-creatures with leathery wings attached to their arms, which were topped with a long, curved claw with which to eviscerate enemies. They had bulging ice-blue eyes and many sharp shard-like teeth sticking out of their leering jaws. They bred in vast numbers and had a preference for swarming the enemy with massive wave attacks. Little is known about the Cythor Fiends' society or way of life, but Imperial Intelligence suggests that their civilization was based on the principles of Warlordism and "Rule of the Shrewdest". Fierce warlords commanded millions of bloodthirsty warriors armed with spike-shooting carbines and their wing-talons.
Additionally the Hive Fleet Medusa commenced its invasion through the Ghoul Stars as of 997.M41 (Codex: Tyranids 5th Ed, page 29). However there is no direct fluff linking the two, however it could be linked to the reason the home world was deserted, though more likely the hive fleet started passing through areas already covered by the Crusade? They simply missed each other?
