Hi all,

I suppose the first thing off the list to try and sort out is a template for the Crusade draft creations. Go have a look in the Crusade Draft threads and let me know what you think of the Template to start with and come ideas to move forward.

I was also thinking of creating another sub for proposed Crusades, those ones that were missed in the initial accumulation but are in fact Canon, and also (later on) proposed fan Crusades. Most likely the fan based Crusades will be limited to those which work smoothly within the framework which we have already fleshed out and, at least at first, will be restricted to volunteers as a bit of reward for the work they have done.

What are peoples thoughts.

Just a thought regarding templates. I remember three years ago during my first surge to play W40k, I began my own draft of all existing crusades. I didn't get terribly far (lack of Time has a way of quashing my projects and enthusiasm) but I came up with a basic layout for a lot of the official crusades.

I'll copy paste my words directly from the text file I was drafting, see if it has any use. Here's two crusades which were able to get a fairly full treatment:

Name : Ophidium Gulf
Orig.: C:BT 4th
When : 998 M41
Where:
Who : 89 Black Templars, Dark Angels vs unknown threat
What : While investigating a strange destructive force, Castellan Raimer, the only survivor of the Garon Crusade, came upon a fleet of Dark Angels. The Dark Angels chapter reluctantly agreed to join forces to hunt the unknown threat.

When the Black Templars caught the one responsible for the widespread destruction, the Dark Angels fleet showed up and under threat of annihilation, Castellan Raimer reluctantly turned over the captive.

All communication with this crusade has been lost.
Why : There is a great suspicion that the Dark Angels chapter is directly responsible for the destruction of the Ophidium Gulf Crusade and while there is no direct proof, the circumstantial evidence is almost damning.

Name : Donian
Orig.: C:BT 4th
When : 985 M39 - 2 M40
where: Donian sector (Nickel V, et al)
Who : 810 Black Templars vs Orks
What : Ork incursions in the sector reached a critical point. The Black Templars declared a crusade and spent the subsequent 17 years battling back the Xeno plague but only after the loss of Marshal Austein during fighting on Nickel V in the early years of the campaign.
Why :

I think the template you have currently looks pretty good; it looks to engender both creativity and a solid framework for the crusades. I'll gladly do what I can for this project, be it writing, proofing, editing, etc...

I placed all of the crusades in chronological start order when possible in my text file. The 3 fluff campaigns from the Games Workshop site (Declates, Centratis Eye, one other) for example do not have any Timeline listed so were placed elsewhere. A nice touch would be if a picture of the campaign shield/symbol could be included as well.

The idea behind the chronological order and campaign shield was to add flavor to my BT minis when painting. For example, a fairly new Initiate might get a Nimbosa campaign (992 M41) shield painted on his armor somewhere, while you might expect to see a Castellan with Vinculus (833 M41) regalia and maybe a venerable dread would still have markings of Jerulas (645 M39). Of course this all assumed that the army was composed of veterans across the centuries all grounded in the present day Timeline.

Anyway as I said in my intro, I'm willing to help fill in the initial campaign gaps with factual info pulled from the Codex. That would be a place to start in any case, before people are assigned crusades to flesh out. At least that's my opinion.

The template (at a quick passing glance) looks good. Will comment further when I've got time! Wink
